Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg was founded in 1993 and, with nine faculties and just under 14,000 students, is one of the youngest universities in Germany.

In 2018, we signed the cooperation agreement with UniNow and now it's hard to imagine everyday life on campus without the app.

Use Case

Initial situation

UniNow founders Tobias and Stefan developed a campus app called "OVGU2GO" during their studies at OVGU. After their studies, the question arose whether to continue the project or to discontinue it.

The solution

"OVGU2GO" was replaced by UniNow, a Germany-wide solution. In 2018, OVGU also decided to enter into a cooperation with UniNow and introduce the app provider as the official campus app.

Special adaptations

Among other things, the campus radio was integrated for Magdeburg University. In addition, the podcast function was integrated into the UniNow News Feed at the request of the OVGU.

All features of the University of Magdeburg at a glance

Grades: In the grades module all grades are displayed in a clear format and in statistics. It is also possible to add grades manually.
Mail: With the mail function, students receive and compose all university mails. No complicated setup is necessary, as the various configuration options are already stored in the app.
Cafeteria: The Mensa feature allows students to access the current dining plans and hours of operation for the Mensa.
Library: The library module provides students with an overview of the books borrowed and the end of the loan period.
Calendar: The schedule can be easily imported into the calendar, so that no lecture or other important appointment is forgotten.
To-Dos: The to-do list function gives an overview of all the tasks that still need to be done and helps to check off completed activities

Special developments

Campus Check-In

Campus Check-In can be used to access buildings, events or sports courses at the university. Since filling out paper lists in face-to-face events during the Corona pandemic makes it much more difficult to comply with hygiene regulations and data protection, and evaluating these paper lists is time-consuming, a function has been implemented in the UniNow app so that infection chains can be traced more easily and quickly.

Campus Radio

The University of Magdeburg has integrated the university radio into the UniNow app. This makes it easy for students to tune in at any time, even when they're on the go.
